High Tea at Houzz AU for Harmony Day

Last week, the Houzz Australia team rolled up their baking sleeves for a ‘Harmonious High Tea’ in honor of Australia’s Harmony Day on March 21. They each brought in a traditional cake that represented their heritage, in celebration of cultural diversity across the world and in the team – and what a multicultural team it is!

Jenny Drew, Houzz AU editor, made our mouths water with her recap:

“Despite the patriotic offerings of Australian lamingtons and marshmallow slice from Em and Lainie, the European desserts came in thick and fast. Liv served up a German pecan chocolate slice recipe, passed down through her dad’s family; and don’t let the Italian spelling of Gioenne’s name fool you, she confused us all with plum jam-stuffed pastries from Croatia. We expected Marie to bring in croissants from her homeland, but we didn’t see Simone’s raspberry French friandes coming … or Luke’s Portuguese egg tarts, for that matter.

Single-handedly representing The States, Georgie brought in chocolate-covered Oreos (can we do this with Anzacs?) and star-spangled cupcakes, while Sasha tickled our tastebuds with Indian gulab jamuns … we had fun saying that one. Susannah’s fluorescent green tang yuan from Hong Kong was a surprising hit, and Grace’s baklava made her Egyptian dad proud.”

The Houzz Australia team may be far away, but it seemed like the whole world was in their kitchen on Harmony Day.
